Obituary of Wanda M. Britton

Wanda M. Britton, age 83 of Royse City, TX passed away at Presbyterian Hospital of Rockway peacefully on January 1, 2023, lovingly surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Navarro County, TX on July 6, 1939 to the late William E. Patterson and late Fay M. (Sykes) Patterson as an only child.

Wanda loved watching birds. Hummingbirds were her favorite and had multiple feeders at any given time. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, baking, cooking, and spending time with her beloved family. Wanda graduated from Waxahachie High. On August 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, John E. Britton, and together they raised three children in their home of 52 years located in Garland, TX.  In 2014, she moved to her daughter’s home in Royse City who faithfully cared for Wanda until her passing.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John E. Britton and son, Johnny Britton, who passed away on November 11, 1972 just after his 11th birthday.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jeff Whitaker, son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Kasey Britton, and her beloved grandchildren, Cynthia Britton, Brittni Whitaker and Zane Britton.  She will be deeply missed by her loving family, her life-long devoted friends, and numerous extended family members who called her Mom or Gran-Gran.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM until time of funeral service at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jasen “J-Bo” Thomas from Tyler, TX, officiating at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Ln, Dallas, TX 75234. Final resting place will be at Dallas National Veterans Cemetery with committal service determined at a later date. Flowers and plants will be accepted on behalf of the family at the funeral home.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at  www.northdallasfuneralhome.com for the Britton family.

Mama Wanda was certainly one of a kind. Everyone she came to know loved her because she had a gentleness and kindness that was no less then infectious. I am so sorry for the loss your family is going through when she took leave of this world entering into the next to take her place beside her beloved John and Johnny. You all have another angel to watch over you.
Pam I know how hard this has been on you. Not only because of the special bond between you as mother and daughter, but also because you became her primary caregiver and closest family member in these last years of her life. No one could ever take that place from you, it was never a place that could’ve been earned, but was yours by birthright. Your mom loved you so much and no matter how old you became, you always remained her little girl. I know she knew how special she was to you because you made her a priority in your life no matter what she went through during those years. You were her constant refuge and she sure knew it. I know you feel lost right now, it is always hard to lose our loved ones, but when you care for them, it leaves a huge hole in your everyday life. It will get better, I promise. The hurt will heal over time and you will look back on these years as some of the most sweet and fulfilling times of your life. God blessed you both by having the options to live her life out together. Many prayers for you, Jeff, Brittni, Chad, and the family as you heal and move on in your lives. May God grant you peace and strength.
    Love always,
    Sheryl

Mama Wanda was truly one of a kind. Beautiful and sweet, thoughtful and kind she was the kind of lady who was an inspiration to many. Pam I know you will miss your mother so deeply. You were her beautiful little girl, no matter how old you were, and I have no doubt that her final years here on this earth were joyous and comfortable surrounded with family and all the care and love that only you could, and did give her. I was always in awe of the close relationship you both shared and no matter who else was around she always spoke of how special you were to her. She was so proud of you. I know you are lost and hurting right now but I promise the time you spent caring for her in these past years will sooth your soul and turn the hurt into blessed memories of the time you shared together. You are in my heart and in my prayers. I am always here for you. I love you my friend.

    Forever,
