Obituary of Sheri Darlene Dubes Cole

On the evening of February 1, 2023, Sheri Darlene Dubes Cole of Carrollton, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 62. On January 10, 1961, Sheri was born in Dallas, Texas to Paul Raymond Dubes and Judith Dianne Brown Dubes. Sheri was the eldest of four siblings, and was the mother of one daughter.

Sheri always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her passion was cooking a variety of cuisines and became a chef after training at the Cordon Blue Culinary Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona and Austin, Texas. She was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting throughout her life. Sheri also enjoyed working with multi-media productions using her creative talents.

Sheri was a gifted athlete, and in her early years she played ASA softball in the local Carrollton-Farmers Branch leagues and on the soccer team as a goalkeeper while attending R. L. Turner High School.

Sheri met John Lee Cole while working in Dallas, TX and they traveled throughout the United States during their years of dating. They were married on November 29, 1982 in Edmonds, Washington. On November 15, 1982, their daughter April Lynn Cole was born. In December, Sheri, John and April returned to Texas to be close to and
reside with family. Sadly, in 1985 John and Sheri parted ways.

Sheri worked many different careers over her life, and became a mentor to many at Alcoholics Anonymous. This also led her to work and serve in an inner-city ministry in Richmond, Virginia with her daughter. She was able to use her multi-media, artistic and chef skills. Sheri and April returned to Texas in 2012.

Sheri was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer several years later. Like many obstacles in Sheri’s life, she fought hard and overcame the disease. In May 2022, Sheri was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and she was given three to four months to live. However, Sheri was a fighter and she fought hard through chemotherapy that did result in shrinking the tumors. Months later, it was discovered that the cancer had moved to her brain. Sheri succumbed to her disease nine months after her diagnosis.

Sheri’s wish for us was not to be sad but joyous, and celebrate her life and love for Jesus. Her pain is gone, and she is home dancing and laughing with Jesus.

Sheri was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jack Riley Woodall and Virginia May Woodall, her paternal grandparents, Leland Edd Dubes and Mildred Mary Dubes, her father, Paul Raymond Dubes, and mother, Judith Dianne Brown Dubes, and uncle, William Leslie Woodall.

Sheri is survived by her daughter, April Lynn Cole; brother, Ronald David Dubes; sister, Melanie Lynn Dubes and husband David Joseph Cahill; sister, Kristina Kaye Dubes Mahoney; niece, Elizabeth Cahill Jeffrey and husband Latt Martin Jeffrey; niece, Kathleen Marie Mahoney Contin and husband Hector Contin; nephews, Shane Richard Riley Cahill, Bryan Thomas Mahoney; great nieces, Jewell Elizabeth Jeffrey, Jade Autry Jeffrey, Adrianna Nicole Contin, Gianna Grace Contin; and great nephew, Matteo James Contin.

The Celebration of Life will be on February 10, 2023, at 1:30 pm, North Dallas Funeral Home, located at 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas, 75234.
