Samuel Preston Weatherby, Jr. passed away Saturday, October 15 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Plano, TX . Preston was born on March 1, 1934, in Jasper, TX. Born the son of Samuel Preston, Sr., and Phyllis Yeager Weatherby. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Sandra Neeley Weatherby, September 18, 2019, and his sister Ethyl Lynn Bellisario, Paris France in 2021. Preston is survived by his daughter Pat Dixon of Fayette, AL, his cousin Dick Lewallen and many beloved friends.
Preston served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War from September 19, 1951, until August 17, 1953. He was a Private First Class.
Preston met the love of his life, Sandy Neeley Weatherby, after he finished his tour as a U.S. Marine. When returning home from war, he was tired and seeking a place to rest. Preston went to a Dallas boarding house. What he didn’t realize was this was a woman’s boarding house. He was allowed to rest there. When he woke up, and Sandy was in the room. They began dating and were married on June 29, 1958, and the rest is history.
Preston and Sandy lived in California for about 6 months to pursue their careers. They were not happy there, so they moved back to Texas and in 1962. They took over the payments on their house at 14147 Heartside Place in Farmers Branch from Robert and Mary Schwertfoger and have lived there since that time.
Upon returning to Texas Preston attended Texas Institute of Technology and received his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. Preston built many post offices around the country during his career.
Preston attended Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, TX for more than 50 years. During this time Preston served on the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir, served as a Stephen Minister since May 1998. Preston also served as a Chaplain for Dallas Medical Center and also served Farmers Branch school district as a bus driver, and Citizens on Patrol. Preston also loved growing roses and won several ribbons and awards.
Funeral Services have been entrusted to North Dallas Funeral Home, A visitation and viewing will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, followed by a Funeral Service at 3 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 2807 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234. Memorials in Preston’s name may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at Hilltop Memorial Park Cemetery, Carrollton, TX on Monday, October 24,2022 at 1:00pm
