Obituary of Michael ” Mike” Preston

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Duane Preston, also known as Mike Preston, who left this world on June 17, 2023, just shy of his 76th birthday. Born in Dallas, TX on June 29, 1947, Michael was a funny, compassionate, generous, and loving soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. As Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Michael’s genuine human touch left a lasting impression on the countless lives he touched.

Michael spent his career as a health insurance adjustor, dedicating his time and energy to helping others navigate the complex world of healthcare. He was a proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal – Sharpshooter (Rifle) for his sharpshooting skills. In his retirement, Michael wholeheartedly embraced his many hobbies, including bowling, computers, movies, sports, and enjoying a good cigar. His warm presence and infectious laughter were a constant source of comfort and happiness for those around him. As Helen Keller wisely said, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” Michael’s love and generosity will be carried in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Debra Preston; his children, Chris Preston, Amber Hagar and Jason Preston; his son-in-law, Daniel Hagar; his grandchildren, Brittany Hagar, Devon Longoria, Jackson Hagar, and Jason Jr.; his great-grandson, Brantley Elder; and his siblings, Brenda Nail and Gary Preston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferrell Preston and Lillie Minchew. Michael’s memory will live on through the stories and laughter shared by those who knew and loved him.
