Obituary of Larry Eugene Maddux

On May 29th, 2023, Larry Eugene Maddux peacefully went to his true home with the Lord at the age of 75 after a battle with lung fibrosis. He knew a few days beforehand and was fully at peace when he passed, especially after the outpouring of love from his multitude of visitors. He smiled constantly those last few days, knowing he was going home and thoroughly enjoying all of the company he had, showing just how many people cared for him.

Larry was born November 30th, 1947, to Albert Maddux and Virginia Maddux in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After High School, Larry was drafted into the army from 1967 through 1969, where he served proudly in the Vietnam War.

Almost immediately after his Vietnam service, Larry met Jennifer Jones on a blind date. They were married on September 2nd, 1971, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After moving to Farmers Branch, Texas, Larry and Jennifer were blessed with 2 children, Sabrina Maddux and Nicholas Maddux, as well as Sabrina’s son, their grandson Alex Ramirez, Nick’s wife Tiffany, and Nick and Tiffany’s daughter Rebecca Maddux. While these are all surviving family members, Larry was preceded in death by his brother Gary Maddux.

Larry developed a love for music at a young age and taught himself how to play the guitar and the bass guitar. He was a musician at heart, playing in several bands beginning in junior high and for many years after. He even played while he served in Vietnam.

Larry was a ham radio operator for over 30 years. He had friends all over the world and was always ready on the airwaves with a joke or sarcastic comment. He had over 20 radios and received many comments about all of the antennas on the house, with people randomly stopping by to ask about them.

As a second-generation mechanic, Larry had a brain for how things worked. He worked as a mechanic for over 50 years and could even rebuild the engine in his own car at the age of 16. He passed his skills onto his son, Nick, who became a mechanic as well, and a lot of his mechanical knowledge to his daughter, Sabrina.

Thanks to his brother Gary, Larry was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Gary bought Larry his first Vietnam Veteran hat and told him “You WILL wear this hat!” After that, Larry did, and he told any veteran he met that they should also be proud and would constantly say “Always wear your hat!” Larry even crossed his love for motorcycles with his veteran pride, riding many times with the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders to escort fallen warriors to their final resting places.
