Obituary of Jack Gordon Fannin

Lance Corporal (LCpl) Jack Gordon Fannin, of Yuma, Arizona went to heaven to be with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on 26 May 2022.

LCpl Fannin was born on 21 December 2000 to proud parents Michael R. Fannin and Allison Rucker Fannin of Lewisville, Texas.

He graduated from Hebron High School and entered the United States Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot—San Diego, California; successfully completing basic training on 13 December 2019. This was followed by additional military occupational specialty instruction as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic training at Naval Air Station, Pensacola FL, home to the Blue Angels, that LCpl Fannin enjoyed and excelled at.

LCpl Fannin’s last duty assignment began in December 2020 at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona where he was a service member of MACS-1 Headquarters Company, MT/UT Platoon. After several months he gained additional proficiencies in the military arts, qualifying for new duties as a Combat Marksmanship Coach and subsequently was transferred to the Marksmanship Training Unit. Here LCpl Fannin tirelessly coached fellow Marines in the use of their service rifles for weapons qualifications as well as assisting in the training of new coaches. LCpl Fannin daily lived the Marine Creed, “This is My Rifle” and was devoted to his duty, his unit and his country.

LCpl Fannin is survived by his parents, younger brother Reese, maternal grandparents Dean and Letty Rucker, and paternal grandmother Mary Fannin, and numerous relatives to include aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom adored him and were immensely proud of his accomplishments in service to our country as a United States Marine. LCpl

Fannin was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Eleanor “Ellie” Rucker and paternal grandparents John “Jack” Fannin and Gertrude Gordon Fannin.

A Memorial Service officiated by Jack’s maternal uncle, the Rev. Scott Davis, will be held at

The Ridge Church,

4561 N. Josey Lane,

Carrollton, TX

Thursday 16 June at 6 PM.

A Burial Service will commence with a funeral procession from the

Dallas, TX

leaving on Friday 17 June at 11 AM for arrival at the

Jack loved his family and we all look forward to our reunion in heaven where we will be together again, eternally joyful and happy as fellow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. The colors will never be retired. Taps will be heard no more.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

I’m so sorry we didn’t see the signs. It’s always the ones you don’t expect. I had worked with Jack as one of his fellow Junior Marines, as well as leading him and mentoring him as an NCO. From the day he had showed up he really wanted to do and learn everything there was nothing he couldn’t do or try to learn. When there was halt to maintenance he didn’t stop. He sought after becoming a Combat Marksmanship Coach. And he did so, eventually doing it full time and reporting to the local Marksmanship Training Unit. He even had been selected as the coach of the cycle for a course. When he left for the MTU we didn’t see much of him anymore. We only seen him excelling at his job when we went to the range and he was instruction multiple Marines at a time. When us at MT/UT platoon heard, we were devastated. Not only did we lose a Marine who we had guided and watched him flourish as an individual. We had lost one of our brothers. When we heard, I had never seen so many grown men and women cry. To his parents, I’m sorry for your loss. Jack was an incredible Marine and even better person. I’m glad I can say we were friends, and I’ll forever hold on to all of the memories we had together. I wish I could’ve done something, I still do. Forever will your son, my brother, live on in spirit.
