Jeanette (Read) Hilley, 1934-2021
Syble Jeanette (Read) Hilley, 87, Richardson, TX, passed from this life Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, in
Carrollton, Denton County, TX.
Memorial services will be at First Baptist Church of Richardson, TX on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at 11 a.m.
Jeanette was born June 24, 1934, in Streetman, Freestone County, TX to Tilden Earl and Fannie Mae
(Vipperman) Read.
Jeanette is survived by her sons, Kevin Hilley, Altus, OK; and James Michael Hilley, of the home,
Richardson, TX; brother, Harold Dwayne Read and wife Elizabeth, Alba, TX; and sister, Nelda (Read)
Bump and husband Billy, Celina, TX.
She was married on July 16, 1962, to James Neal Hilley, who preceded her in death in 1993.
Jeanette was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vernon Read, Cecil Read, Lyndle Read and
Glen Read; and sisters, Juanita (Read) Roberts and Lestene (Read) Perry.
Jeanette’s sweet and generous spirit touched many lives. For four and a half decades she worked in
childcare at First Baptist Church of Richardson and Dallas Bible Church, as well as others. The churches
where she worked treasured her. She also was a crossing guard for Greenwood Hills Elementary and
drove a school bus for many years.
She received gifts, cards and messages from children and families whom she had impacted over the
years with her generosity of spirit. Her circle was big, and she was loved by many.
Jeanette loved flowers, cats and dogs, being in the sunshine, and watching the world from her living
room’s picture window. She liked to look nice and enjoyed wearing bright colors.
She experienced an active life and good health until recent years.
Jeanette was raised in rural Navarro County, Texas and went to high school in Corsicana. In her twenties,
she moved to Dallas.
Jeanette and Jim Hilley bought a new home in Richardson, TX in 1965, where they both lived until their
final illnesses.
A stay-at-home mother until her sons went to school, Jeanette was always there to welcome Kevin and
Mike as adults, when they needed to be wrapped in her arms.
Now, she is wrapped in the arms of angels.

Dear Mike and Kevin,
Your mother was such a joy to know and I can say that me and my family always felt safe knowing she helped us get across the street walking home from Greenwood Hills. She was always such a nice lady and it seems as though that kind spirit was enjoyed and loved by many. May she rest in peace.
Love, hugs & prayers, Emily Loe Bennett

Both of my boys had sweet Jeanette as a teacher at First Kids preschool. She was such a happy person who treated me like an old friend – and that meant a lot to me! I just loved Ms.Jeanette and am grateful my kids got to be in her care. She was a blessing to our family.

Miss Jeanette loved on my kids at FBCR during their preschool years. She and I worked the nursery together for many years and she always wanted to know how my kids were doing at every stage of their life. She had a knack for remembering names of kids she taught and she worked just about every time the church doors were opened. She was faithful and I really enjoyed working with her.

Miss Jeanette, you were truly loved, truly a very special lady and will be truly missed. Thank you for your love for all children, especially my three granddaughters. You could put even an unhappy child at ease and could do so with such calmness and grace. You were truly one of a kind. With much love and gratitude.

Miss Nette (Jeanette was hard for them to say) was an angel to my kids. She loved them and they loved her. When we would pick them up, she often had a story or two to tell, usually about my son, but sometimes both. She remembered those stories even after they became adults. How she loved to see them after they grew up! She remembered all the children she cared for which is a testament to her love and dedication to children.

Janette taught me almost everything I know about childcare. She also was like a grandmother to me. She didn’t bat an eye when I told her about my controversial personal life and loved me regardless. She was always straight forward with a little sass and it made me want to be like her when I grew old. She’s in a better place now and I wish her family the best

Jeanette we will always love you. It’s very hard to find people that are true & pure. Your charm and funny manner always put a smile on everyone’s face. I will always remember that your favorite thing was to sit and listen to the quietness and calm – you were all about peace. May God bless her two sons and the rest of the family.

Jeanette, or Ms Nette, as my daughter liked to call her, was the true meaning of care-giver! She cared for so many little, precious souls over many wonderful years at First Baptist and Dallas Bible. She was there for everyone who needed a hug-child or adult. I know she is in heaven helping with the tiniest of angels up with Jesus. May Gods bless her two sons and the rest of her lovely family. I can’t wait to see her again someday and get my “Ms Nette Hug”! With loving thoughts, Carrie Marshall
