Celebration of Life service
 Friday, June 10, 2022
11:00 am
in the Brooks Family Chapel of the
2710 Valley View Lane,
Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Following will be a procession to Furneaux Cemetery at 3701 Cemetery Hill Road, Carrollton, Texas 75007 where Doris will be laid to rest.
Olene leaves behind her son Blake Arapis, and wife Rhonda of Burnet, Texas; son Brent Arapis of Dallas, Texas; and the sparkle in her eye, granddaughter Nicole Arapis of Dallas, Texas. Additionally, she leaves behind three step grandchildren; Ashely, Anthony, & Aaron; five step great grandchildren; and honorary granddaughter, Makayla.

Olene was born on January 6, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Olen Paris “O.P.” and Omazelle Davis. After moving to Dallas from Lubbock and starting her junior year at Rylie High School, she soon met the love of her life, Bruce, while in Chemistry class.

If you knew Olene, then you’re sure to have received a card from her at some point, as she loved writing notes to people and collecting stationery. Bruce would say he made a mistake by not agreeing to let her open a stationery store when she wanted to and becoming the next Hallmark. Olene also enjoyed spending her free time and weekends at their lake house on Lake Texoma. Walnut Creek residents will miss seeing her smile and hearing her laugh while sitting out on the porch. Olene loved the Lord and lived her life to do the right thing, she always reminded people to be grateful for what they had and to remember that the Lord is in control.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Arapis; parents O.P. and Oma Davis; and brother Ronald Dean Davis.

The Arapis family would like to thank the staff of HOPE Healthcare and New Horizon Homes for their attention, love and compassion that they expressed to Doris Olene. Alfo, Sharon, & Cassandra specifically, thank you for becoming family and caring for Doris in the last year of her life. Your presence brought so much joy and happiness to her.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

We are so sad to hear about Olene. She and Bruce were both great friends of ours. She was so full of life and always had a laugh and smile. Sending prayers and love to all the family especially Nicole who kept us informed and took excellent care of them both. Our only regret is that we didn’t meet them sooner. Glad Olene you are reunited with your Bruce. RIP until we meet again ❤️

I did not know Olene well. I stayed in their home one night when I had an early flight or meeting the next day. I was invited to stay by her son, Brent. Brent and I met at Baylor and have been friends ever since.

Olene was very gracious and welcoming. I know that everyone who knew her well will miss her terribly.

Olene and I went to high school together. She and Bruce married the day before my husband and I married. Olene never failed to send us an anniversary card. We enjoyed our long talks on the phone and she always made me laugh. I will always cherish our friendship and will miss Olene. She was a thoughtful and faithful friend.

"I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks."

"The unexpected passing of my husband was a very difficult and trying time for my boys and I. I had the good fortune of having Abel walk us thru this process. Working with him was such a weight off my shoulders. He was professional, so polite and helpful. The service was beautiful – never did I feel rushed or like just another customer. They gave me the time I needed and I appreciate that so much! Also Mr. Brooks took special care of my husband as he is a fellow mason. I would highly recommend working with Abel and North Dallas Funeral Home."

"As soon as the call was made to Mr. Wayne Baxter all of my brothers final needs were taken care of. They walked me through what to expect the timeline and even dealt with the cemetery and the grave diggers. I was a hot mess due to my brothers sudden and unexpected passing. The experience was seamless and made it easy for my brother’s friends and family to say their last goodbyes. They even had the size to accommodate such a large group that showed up . The package deals that they offered were cost-effective and didn’t break my bank account. They included extras and accommodations that other funeral homes charged extra for. All the staff was amazing including Mr. Don Dodd . I can not thank them enough for all their help."

Dear John,

It was such a nice pleasure to meet you, and what you had planned for my father just took my breath away. It was so special to hear you tell us how he would just come over to talk with you. I think it brought him much comfort. Thank you for putting that Air Force article of him on your website. I am going to have a replica made of the painting of his plane to give you.

Thank you again for all you have done to honor our dad.

Love, The Gillilands
