Obituary of
Dewonda (Dee) Henderson Phelps
Dewonda (Dee) Henderson Phelps was born on November 20, 1937, in Terral, Oklahoma to her parents, Bill and Maude Henderson. She is survived by her sister, Helen Henderson Kirby.
Dee accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 13 and was baptized in the Red River. “Shall We Gather at The River” was sung that Sunday afternoon.
She married Bob, her high school sweetheart, in 1955 and they came to Dallas to start their life together. They had two children, a son, Rob Phelps (deceased) and daughter Kim Phelps Holtzman and Mike. She was predeceased by Bob on October 23, 2022.
Dee was known as MeMe to her grandchildren Shane Mullens (deceased) and Shealee Mullens Greer and husband Tony and to her great grandchildren Ryder and Casen Greer.
Nothing made her happier than being with her family. Celebrating birthdays and holidays was so very special to her. She loved traveling with Bob.
Dee served as first lady of Farmers Branch for 15 years while Bob was Mayor. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Leader, Vacation Bible School Director & Teacher. Woman’s Missionary Union Director, Director of Acteens. President of Preston West Republican Women, Precinct Chairman, Metrocrest Republican Club. Member of: Farmers Branch Woman’s Club, First Baptist Church Carrollton since 1987, Rod Bunch’s Sunday School Class and Director of Sisters in Sorrow.
She and Bob were blessed with a wonderful life together!
Dee has requested that this is to be a celebration of her life, not a sad event. She loved her Lord and the Church. She was a great prayer warrior and believed that prayer was the mightiest force in the world.
Services for Dee will be on Monday, September 18, 2023. The family will be receiving visitors beginning at 10:00 am and then the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am all at the First Baptist Church at the Fields, 1401 Carrollton Parkway, Carrollton, Texas 75010. Officiating will be Keith Ferguson from the church. Following the service there will be a procession to Keenan Cemetery, 2570 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch 75234.

Dee and Bob were such good friends and neighbors. I loved to listen to Dee’s stories of travel and growing up in OK. So happy for her that she’s now with “her Bob” in heaven…as it should be.

Dee was a very special member of our family. We shared many fun times and she was adored by all. During the past year her strength and faith in God kept her going but she is exactly where she wanted to be: with her Lord and her loved Bob.

Dee has been in my life since childhood at The First Baptist of Farmers Branch. Both her and Bob were active with our youth group and church. They’re entire family have all been so special to me throughout my life. While she will be missed on earth her whole life has been served for what comes after death. She is with her savior and her beloved Bob now.

We have loved Dee from the first time Bob, my brother, brought her home to meet the family…she was more like a sister than a sister-in-law..I have never known a couple that loved each other the way Bob & Dee did. SHE’S WITH Him!!
