Obituary of Brian R. Westgate

Brian R. Westgate passed away on July 9, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in chemical engineering. Upon graduation, he started a long career with Mobil; first in Canada, then in the United States beginning in New Orleans and continuing around the world. He loved baseball and music and the technology that allowed him to follow both closely, as well as playing with his grandson and taking walks in nature. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Byth Westgate, his stepdaughter Kendra Nuckels, his son-in-law Robert Pierry III, his grandson Alasdair Pierry and many relatives and friends. He was loved and is missed.

Brian was a truly unique and good man. I enjoyed getting to know him during his long marriage to his devoted wife Nancy. He and Nancy got married at my home. It was special and a privilege sharing that moment with them. I’ll always remember how he would wear shorts in the coldest winter! He will be missed!

Doreen and I have been missing his annual visits to Calgary for many years.
We miss the long discussions we had.
We should probably miss him continuously cleaning up every time we played Monopoly, but we don’t.
Our family still talks about the time we visited him in Barbados. We had fun.

I have fond memories of Brian from his time in Calgary. We went to junior and senior high school together, and later worked with him at Mobil Oil in Calgary. We were very close friends at that time, and I will always remember our times together
