Archie Cockerell
Obituary
Archie Lee Cockerell Born on September 3, 1946 in Seymour Texas, Archie lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
Archie served in the United States Armed Forces, where he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, until he was honorably discharged.
While in Germany he studied at the German Wine Academy, which piqued his interest in both wine and food. Upon returning to the United States, he enrolled at El Centro in the first ever Culinary Program of the college.
With his wine and culinary training, Archie worked at Newman Marcus Wine Cellar and at Marty’s Food and Wine, a Dallas institution for all things gourmet and wine. The owner of Marty’s referred to him as “the best wine director he ever had.”
Archie was a student of the world and loved learning. His propensity for language was something he continued studying even through his illness.
Archie was drawn to his wife Mynetta Cockerell, by whom he is survived, and it was a match made in culinary heaven. They were married for 35 years.
Services to honor Archie will be held at a to-be-determined date, possibly spring, in order to be conscientious of safety measures due to the pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in the name of Archie Cockerell.
Testimonials

It was such a nice pleasure to meet you, and what you had planned for my father just took my breath away. It was so special to hear you tell us how he would just come over to talk with you. I think it brought him much comfort. Thank you for putting that Air Force article of him on your website. I am going to have a replica made of the painting of his plane to give you. Thank you again for all you have done to honor our dad. Love, The Gillilands
