Obituary of Urban, Dorothy N. Alsup

Dorothy N. Alsup Urban was called home to be with the Lord on September 5th, 2021 at the age of 92.  She was born in Dallas on December 7th, 1928 to parents: William F. Alsup and Minnie Lee Kirk.  She graduated from W.H. Adamson High School.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Harry R. Urban Jr., a Navy Veteran of WWII, her infant son Harry (Sonny) R. Urban III,  her father William F. Alsup, her mother Minnie Lee Kirk, her brother William (Bill) E. Alsup, and her sister Hazel (Marie) Stites.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sherry A. Springer-Peters of Bowling Green, KY and her grand-daughter Michelle A. Springer of Dallas, TX.

She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church.  Also, she retired from Teledyne Geotech in Garland, TX, where she assisted in making instruments that went off to the Apollo Moon Landing Mission.  Later in her career, she was  Manager of a woman’s clothing boutique in Dallas, as well as a Manager at a Fuller-Brush store.

Her greatest joy was being with her family and close friends.  Both Dorothy and Harry enjoyed going dancing in their younger years and the casino’s and horse races in they’re later years.

They also enjoyed going camping to the local lakes with family and friends, during Sherry’s childhood.  Dorothy enjoyed gardening, sewing, as well as fixing and repurposing items.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of boldness, generosity, kindness, sincerity, compassion and most of all love.  She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She’ll be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

The Interment and graveside service will be held on Friday, October 29th, at 3:00 pm at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. For more information please call 214-467-3374.

My mom and I are reflecting and wanted to share a story or two about our beloved Aunt Dorothy.
When my mom and dad were first engaged they enjoyed going dancing with Dorothy, Harry and sister (my grandmother) Marie and Bill. What fun times.
When mom asked Michelle to be their flower girl Aunt Dorothy asked if it would be ok to use her Easter dress and put a purple sash on it. Mom said of course, and Michelle was such a doll.
Then when I was born Dorothy and Harry came to our house and brought me a teddy bear rocker. They were so tickled.
I remember going over to Aunt Dorothy’s house in Garland and playing in the back yard while she gardened.
Such a lovely and kind human being. She will be missed.
