MacKenzie, Dreda Ruth
Obituary
Dreda Ruth MacKenzie passed away at home on Monday, October 11, 2021. She was born on December 10, 1942 in Big Spring, Texas to parents Earl and Ruth Wilson.
Dreda will be deeply missed by her sons Keith MacKenzie of New Hampshire and Andrew MacKenzie and his wife Kathy MacKenzie of Alabama; her grand-children: Chandler MacKenzie of Connecticut, Keelan MacKenzie of New Hampshire, Sarah Pritchard (and Jake Pritchard) of Mississippi, and Ashley MacKenzie of Alabama; siblings: Rita Chapman of Odessa, Glenda Branaugh of Austin, Robert Wilson (and Dorothy) of Lubbock, and Jim Wilson (and Nancy) of Rowlette; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dreda was predeceased by her parents and sister Beverly Weeks.
Dreda grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School. In 1967, Dreda moved to Dallas where she married and started her family. She eventually entered the work force and had a long and successful career working at companies such as the National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCJ), The Ronald Reagan Scholars Program, EDS, and Southland Corporation (7-Eleven).
Dreda had a strong relationship and love of God and the church. She grew up attending the Baptist church in Big Spring and was very involved for many years with the Midway Hill Christian Church in Dallas. Other than her love of God, Dreda loved her family above all else. But shortly behind her love for her family was her love of the Dallas Cowboys and her Texas Rangers. She rarely ever missed a Cowboys game and there were very few missed Rangers games. Additionally, she often enjoyed watching other Texas based sports including the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders. In general, Dreda loved Texas.
Dreda also loved spending vacations and holidays with family and friends. Dreda traveled to many states and countries but one of her favorite places to travel to was Lake City, Colorado where she started vacationing as a small girl and continued through her life. Times will not be the same without her funny comments, stories and personality.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held on Saturday October 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75234.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
Testimonials

It was such a nice pleasure to meet you, and what you had planned for my father just took my breath away. It was so special to hear you tell us how he would just come over to talk with you. I think it brought him much comfort. Tha you for putting that Air Force article of him on your website. I am going to have a replica made of the painting of his plane to give you. Thank you again for all you have done to honor our dad. Love, The Gillilands
