Obituary of Ricker II, Martin Miller

  Martin Miller Ricker II, from Dallas, TX passed away peacefully on August 22, 2021.  He was a good man that lived a long and happy life.

   Miller was born in Dallas, TX on April 13, 1931. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949 where he served in the ROTC for 4 years. After attending North Texas State College for a year and a half, Miller joined the Air Force and served 4 years. He then returned to North Texas and graduated with a degree in Business.

      Miller met his wife, Mary Kay, in Los Angeles, CA and after a 3-week engagement, following their first date a week before, they married and began their large family. They were married 58 years until Mary Kay passed on November 26, 2015.

    Miller worked for Chance Vaught, Collins Radio and then owned A&R Office Supply with his wife Mary Kay for 20 years.  Miller was a born leader with a gift for gab, as a business owner, President of the Richardson Lions Club, President of the Greenwood Hills PTA, and baseball team manager/coach. After retiring, he enjoyed short term jobs working at the Arboretum, Security at the Dallas Stars hockey games and as a greeter at Bass Pro Shops.

   Miller played softball for over 50 years. A player himself, as the pitcher, and also as a coach of many winning teams. He is currently in the Softball Hall of Fame in Mustang, OK for his championship 65 and over team. 

    Miller was a devoted husband for 58 years and loved his six children dearly. He enjoyed softball, fishing, playing cards, scrapping, telling stories and spending time with family and grandchildren. 

    Miller is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Corinne, his wife Mary Kay, daughter Kelly Holmes and son Quinn Ricker.

    Miller is survived by his brother Jimmy Ricker and wife Shirley, of Richardson, TX; sons Clay and Adam; daughters Stacy Rhea and Holly Kerr; sons-in-laws David Rhea, Todd Kerr; and daughters-in-law Karen Ricker and Pricilla Ricker; grandchildren Tyler, Nikki, Channing, Carson, Cal, Chad, Alexandra, Catherine, Fletcher, Pauli, Miller and Charlotte.

    We will miss you Dad and remember you always in our hearts with fond memories and thankfulness for all that you did for us.

      A Memorial Mass will be held at Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 10:00am, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
