I just learned today that Johnice had passed away. I had tried to contact her a few weeks ago because I just moved back to Dallas. Her phone number was disconnected. I had a reason to be down in the Oakcliff area so I looked for the house where I spent time with her while she was so broken, despairing, suffering. It’s gone, something else has been built. I just wanted to know that she was OK. She suffered a great deal in that situation with the hit-and-run driver. I do not believe that anybody could’ve suffered more. It hurt me to see her so hurt. Johnice, my dear, I hope you found peace in the days before you had to pass on. I will hold you in my heart because I have an enormous sense respect, and compassionate caring for you. I hope you found peace. I will always think of you. I hope you gave something to you to help you find peace. You certainly gave something special to me and I will always remember it. Thank you for our brief time together.

Diane, however, today that Johnice had passed away. i’m so sorry to hear that news. It is quite by accident to see her obituary. I had a reason to be in Oak Cliff and try to find the house. It was no longer there. Something else has been built. The last few months that I spent with her, she was in the midst of a great deal of agony and sadness and despair. She was pretty broken at that time. I think I happened to bring her food one afternoon and you were there. I lost track of her after that. I tried to contact her recently since I’m back in Dallas. Her number was disconnected. I tried to contact her because I wanted to know how things were going for her. I know she got a favorable ending to her legal issue. I hope that before she died she had a chance to pull herself together and become the artist that she always was. I read what you had to say to her in your obituary comment. I’m glad that you had nice things to say to her. I don’t know how or why she died. I hope she had peace. I will miss her very much. Not all people follow rules or have too much going in terms of their talents or wherewithal to stay within the lines. I think she lost her way for long time, and in my short time knowing her, I read her and still read her as such a lovely person and so tortured at the same time. I regret that I had not kept in contact with her before. I would’ve preferred to tell her these things rather than tell them to you. Be well.

I just woke up with you on my Mind and found out the sad news. You were such a lovely lady in our early days in Memphis, factually you are the first artist I knew,as a young teenager you were always painting. I’m so proud of your success. Miss you much. Love you always

My dear Johnice, there is not a day that passes that you are not in my mind and heart with prayers. I am still keeping the legacy of your gift as an exceptional artist alive! I miss your complexity, but through it, I learned much about love, sometimes tough love, patience, kindness, humor, authenticity, truth, protection, caring, your vulnerability, and so much more. God sent me to be a TRUE friend to you. I am still here, by God’s amazing grace and mercy! I love you! You are and forever will be my sister/friend! I’ll see you again face-to-face “up yonder” with my other heavenly ancestors! God wills! Peace! ️
