Obituary of
Elam, Tryphosa Corrine (Williams)
Tryphosa Corrine Elam, nicknamed Phosie or Trophy, was born on May 23, 1962, in New York, New York to the late Reverend Willie James Williams and the late Evangelist Corinne Virginia Bembow Johnson Williams and was raised by the late Eleanor Frederick Williams.
Tryphosa began her education in the New York City School System. She attended Public School 173 and Eleanor Roosevelt Jr. High School 143, both located in Manhattan. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School, Bronx, New York. Tryphosa attended the Deliverance Bible Institute, in Newark, Jersey. She also attended St. Augustine University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tryphosa began working in the retail field as a sales representative and was promoted to Store Manager of a prestigious shoe company. She then supervised the mailroom at a company called Neopost in New York City. When the company expanded to Texas, she was then promoted into a new position and relocated to Carrollton, Texas. In Texas, she built a new life and discovered a new place to worship, work, and study the bible at Covenant Church. Tryphosa loved interacting with her community though her part-time work at Costco, Dillard’s, and Home Instead-Senior Care Services. Tryphosa was adventurous, resourceful, and had a passion for both fashion and food. Always up to date on the latest trends, Phosie was the “Queen of the Selfie'' and a true Fashionista to the end. If you knew her well, then you could vouch that every post was a testament to her creative style and showcased the many ways that she could change her hair! However, her joy of cooking came directly from her soul, which inspired the creation of her catering business, Trophi’s Delight.
Always with kindness, laughter, and unconditional love for family and friends,
Tryphosa shared her heart with everyone she knew.
She would travel to the ends of the earth to stay connected to those she loved.
Tryphosa was joined in matrimony to former spouse, Robert Elam on September 4, 1988. To this union, Tryphosa became the mother of a beautiful daughter Emani Cherrill Elam. She is survived by one daughter Emani Aguilar, one son-n-law Luis Aguilar, four sisters Cherrill Wilson, Candace Williams, Gail Stridiron (Husband - Michael Stridiron), and Daphne Vann. She was also a sister to a very close family friend Celia Veasy (Husband - Billy Veasy), best friends Paula Joyner-Kirkland (Texas) and Tonya Hayes (Philly). Tryphosa is also survived by one uncle Robert Frost, Aunt Ruth McCray, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and former spouse Tony Peele.
In glory, Tryphosa will reunite with her late parents, sister Deborah Williams, brother Anthony Johnson, nephew Christopher Rayam, and a host of other family members.
In her youth, Tryphosa began her spiritual journey as a member of the Upper Room Evangelistic Tabernacle (Rev. Willie J. Williams-Pastor) Leader, Young Adult Choir Director, and Lead Soloist of the Adult Choir. She volunteered to perform at block services on the streets of New York City and in the prison ministry for New York’s toughest prison systems for Men, Women, and Children. As an adult, Tryphosa worshiped the Lord through her service, bible studies, and activities at Covenant Church in Texas.
Tryphosa loved the Lord, loved family, loved life, and lived it to the fullest. Always smiling, singing like an angel, making strangers feel like family, and beaming with loving charm were “Phosie’s” gifts of the spirit. God gifted her with a song in her heart for all to hear his glory in her singing. The heavens opened whenever she sang Blessed Assurance, a song that inspired all who heard her testimony in this song. In our hearts, we will continue to hear her sing the joy of the Lord. Now take your place in the heavenly choir and keep singing Phosie, keep singing!
“To everything there is a season, at time for every purpose under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1
On Tuesday morning, December 22, 2020, Tryphosa Corrine Elam was called home to glory at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. We are forever grateful to have had this wonderful Angel in our lives and will cherish her love, talents, and memories in our hearts forever. Though she is truly missed, we are at peace in knowing that she is with the Lord. Tryphosa Corrine Elam has truly been a good and faithful servant.
Sleep on Tryphosa. Take your rest. We loved you more, but God loved you best!
