Howard, John Malcolm

Obituary

John (Jack) Malcolm Howard, 83 of Carrollton, Texas, passed away, Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Jack was born February 4, 1937, in St. Petersburg, Florida to Francis and Dorothy (Palmer) Howard.  His family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, around 1948.  After a move to Jamestown, North Carolina, he attended high school, where he left to become a newspaper printer for the High Point Enterprise.  Jack also served in the National Guard from 1954-1960.  During 1960, he met the love of his life, Regina Elizabeth Hinshaw, on a blind date, and they were married on July 7, 1961.  They raised a family of four wonderful children, and celebrated 59 years of marriage.

In 1979, a major life event happened while Jack was working for ITEK Graphics (AB Dick Company).  His position of servicing printing machines was being transferred to Dallas, Texas.  So, he moved his family to a house in Carrollton, Texas, where they have lived for 42 years. He continued to work as a printer technician until his retirement in 1996.  Jack enjoyed time spent with family and friends at their lake house on Lake Texoma, built and maintained his backyard Koi pond, watched NASCAR, played golf, was a car enthusiast, tinkered with CB radios, liked to draw, wrote poetry, and collected things.

Jack is survived by his wife, Regina (Hinshaw) Howard; sons, David and Marjorie (Nolan) Howard, and Timothy Howard; daughters, Susan and Michael Thomas, and Tina Howard; brothers, Daniel and Phyllis (Carpenito) Howard, and James Howard; sister-in-law, Linda (Weaver) Howard; ex-sister-in-law, Carolyn (Miller) Howard; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Terrence Howard and William Howard.

The Howard family would like to give a special thank you to the people at Oxford Glen Memory Care in Carrollton for providing great care and support to “Pop” during his valiant three year battle with Parkinson’s disease with dementia.

At this time, the family is not scheduling a memorial service.  If you would like to offer words of sympathy or share memories of Jack to the family, they may be left on the funeral home website.  If you would like to make a charitable contribution in his name, the family selected The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

"I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks."

"The unexpected passing of my husband was a very difficult and trying time for my boys and I. I had the good fortune of having Abel walk us thru this process. Working with him was such a weight off my shoulders. He was professional, so polite and helpful. The service was beautiful – never did I feel rushed or like just another customer. They gave me the time I needed and I appreciate that so much! Also Mr. Brooks took special care of my husband as he is a fellow mason. I would highly recommend working with Abel and North Dallas Funeral Home."

"As soon as the call was made to Mr. Wayne Baxter all of my brothers final needs were taken care of. They walked me through what to expect the timeline and even dealt with the cemetery and the grave diggers. I was a hot mess due to my brothers sudden and unexpected passing. The experience was seamless and made it easy for my brother’s friends and family to say their last goodbyes. They even had the size to accommodate such a large group that showed up . The package deals that they offered were cost-effective and didn’t break my bank account. They included extras and accommodations that other funeral homes charged extra for. All the staff was amazing including Mr. Don Dodd . I can not thank them enough for all their help."

Dear John,

It was such a nice pleasure to meet you, and what you had planned for my father just took my breath away. It was so special to hear you tell us how he would just come over to talk with you. I think it brought him much comfort. Tha you for putting that Air Force article of him on your website. I am going to have a replica made of the painting of his plane to give you.

Thank you again for all you have done to honor our dad.

Love, The Gillilands
