Matt came to Dallas in 1995 and worked under the guidance of my dad. Matt was like a little brother to me. We loved playing softball, golfing, Mav games, Stars games, and playing Trivial Pursuit. For the past year I had the privilege to join Acts29 and work along side him. Matt, I am going to miss you more than you could ever imagine. Tell Jesus I said hey. I will see you again someday. Love you brother!

I worked with Matt on a series of projects at THRs Arlington Memorial Hospital. Matt was unquestionably reliable and added so much value to each project he involved himself in. Matt’s humility and Christlike character was apparent throughout his interactions and the testimony of his faith integrated with his professionalism really made an impact on me. Matt was a solid team member and project partner. He will be sorely missed. “Fair winds and following seas” my friend.

I first met Matt in the mid-late 90’s when he was working at CCRD. The one thing anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Matt would notice, is his easy smile and calm demeanor. What I learned over the years is that the easy smile and calm demeanor were rooted in his unwavering faith in Christ. Matt knew who he was, he was a child of God and that brought him peace. He was proud of his faith which is evident not only in the naming of Acts29, but also the culture he created and how he treated people. Many times, I knew I was trying his nerves (because he is WAY smarter than me!) but Matt ALWAYS treated me with kindness and respect. You could not help but love Matt. His brilliant mind and his endearing smile were a bright light which shone throughout this industry. His light and legacy will continue on in Acts29.

Matt, I will miss you for the rest of my time on Earth but I look forward to seeing you again my friend.

My sincerest prayers and condolences to Kristine, the boys, and the rest of Matts family.

I have known Matt for 20 years and had the privilege of working with him from the inception of Acts 29.

I loved that even his company name reflected his deep and sincere faith in Christ. Matt lived out his faith with a patient, calm, and joyful spirit with a constant smile and always ready for a good laugh.

I will sorely miss you Matt. Looking forward to the day that I will be with you again in the presence of our Lord (2 Cor 4:14).

I had the pleasure of being interviewed and hired by both Matt Short and Jeff Black at CCRD Partners in 2003, during a time of tremendous change for all of us. He was my team leader; Matt and I also shared a common heritage, both of us were born in Seoul, South Korea. I knew Matt to be a man generous with his time, open about his faith, dedicated to his family and profession. He touched many lives and engineers, who will mourn the passing of a colleague so young and bright. Rest in Peace Matt and thank you for being one of the good guys.

My sincerest condolences. Matt interviewed me for an internship with ccrd back in 2005. I decided to intern there and ultimately work full time, in part, because of Matt. I got to know him even more well during his involvement with ASHRAE. He was president right after me and there were many events where we discussed things much more than engineering and ASHRAE. Whether it was tinkering with his Android phone or discussing life in general, it was always enjoyable to converse with Matt. He influenced the lives of many. May your family find comfort knowing this. Rest in peace and we will all see you again one day.

"I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks."

"The unexpected passing of my husband was a very difficult and trying time for my boys and I. I had the good fortune of having Abel walk us thru this process. Working with him was such a weight off my shoulders. He was professional, so polite and helpful. The service was beautiful – never did I feel rushed or like just another customer. They gave me the time I needed and I appreciate that so much! Also Mr. Brooks took special care of my husband as he is a fellow mason. I would highly recommend working with Abel and North Dallas Funeral Home."

"As soon as the call was made to Mr. Wayne Baxter all of my brothers final needs were taken care of. They walked me through what to expect the timeline and even dealt with the cemetery and the grave diggers. I was a hot mess due to my brothers sudden and unexpected passing. The experience was seamless and made it easy for my brother’s friends and family to say their last goodbyes. They even had the size to accommodate such a large group that showed up . The package deals that they offered were cost-effective and didn’t break my bank account. They included extras and accommodations that other funeral homes charged extra for. All the staff was amazing including Mr. Don Dodd . I can not thank them enough for all their help."

Dear John,

It was such a nice pleasure to meet you, and what you had planned for my father just took my breath away. It was so special to hear you tell us how he would just come over to talk with you. I think it brought him much comfort. Thank you for putting that Air Force article of him on your website. I am going to have a replica made of the painting of his plane to give you.

Thank you again for all you have done to honor our dad.

Love, The Gillilands
