Obituary of
Wood, Anita Jo (Walden)
Anita Jo (Walden) Wood, a longtime resident of Dallas, passed away on June 11, 2020 at her residence. The only child of George and Chloe Walden, Anita was born on August 18, 1927 in Dallas. Anita met LaMont Wood and they married in Dallas on September 20, 1947. Theirs was a happy marriage, which lasted until LaMont’s death in 2009. Two children were born to Anita and LaMont; a daughter, Marcia and two years later, a son, Randy.
Anita worked at Sears until she became a mother, and she was happy to be a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. After her retirement from SSBA, Anita and LaMont bought a travel trailer and set out frequently to see the country, sometimes travelling with their group of friends or on their own. Her children received many postcards from her along the way.
Anita was a quiet spoken, gentle woman, and people were drawn to her kindness and sweet nature. She never had an unkind word for anyone and held her family and her friends close to her heart. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carrollton for many years .
Anita is survived by her daughter, Marcia Rodgers and her husband, Raymond, her granddaughter, Melinda White and her husband, Lance, her two grandsons, Travis Rodgers and Justin Rowland, and her three great grandchildren, Ryan Rodgers, Coley White and Chloe White. Anita’s beloved husband, LaMont and her son, Randy Wood predeceased her, and no doubt welcomed her along with her parents and Aunt Tince into heaven.
Services for Mrs. Anita Wood will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the North Dallas Funeral Home at 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 with visitation from 9-10 am, services from 10-11 am, and burial at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas at 12:30. Due to Covid-19, facial coverings will be required by everyone.
