Obituary of Hathaway Jr., Clinton Russell

HATHAWAY, JR., Dr. Clinton Russell was born on November 30, 1927 in Fall River, Massachusetts and passed away on August 16, 2016 in Richardson, Texas. He was predeceased by Eunice Dysart Hathaway, his wife of 27 years; parents, Clinton R. and Martha E. Hathaway; and two sisters, Mary E. Carper and Verna A. Berry. He is survived by Lourdes Pietersz Hathaway, his wife of 33 years; son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Patricia M. Hathaway; grand-daughters, Kaitlin, Kelsey and Ashley; daughter, Martha Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews. Clint’s early years were spent on the family farm in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. His family relocated to Texarkana where he graduated from Texas Senior High in 1945. He then served in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1947. Clint pursued his dream of being a doctor by attending the University of Texas, Austin pre-med program and was honored for being in the top 2% of his class. He received his medical degree in 1954 from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas (top 10% of his class) and was an Alpha Epsilon Delta Honorary Society member. He performed his internship at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Corps Reserves and served his 3 year residency at Walter Reed in Obstetrics and Gynecology as a Captain in the Regular US Army Medical Corps. He continued his active duty in France (with the rank of Major) spending 1 year at the US Army Station Hospital in Chinon and 3½ years at the US Army General Hospital in Croix Chapeau. He served both hospitals as Chief of OBGYN service and Assistant Hospital Commander; he was also Chief of Dependent Outpatient services at Croix Chapeau. Dr. Hathaway resigned his Army Commission in 1963 to pursue a private practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Dallas, Texas until his retirement in 1995. He was deeply respected by his patients and colleagues as a selfless and thoughtful doctor.  His hospital affiliations included Baylor Medical Center, St. Paul Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Association, and Dallas Fort Worth OBGYN Society. Interment will be held September 12th at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. A memorial service will be held September 13th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Road, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: 1) UT Southwestern, “Alumni Memorial Scholarship fund”, PO Box 91088, Dallas TX 75391 -or- 2) TX Health Resources Foundation “OBGYN fund at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas”, PO Box 20038, Arlington, TX 76006.
