“I highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brother’s arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.”
I’ve been Dora’s friend and neighbor for over 25 years. I don’t think there was ever a time when we ran across each other by foot or in the car, where we didn’t stop and share some words, some neighborhood news and some laughter. We were both gardeners and while I gave her yellow columbine, she showed me how beautiful it looks paired with pink oxalis. She’s filled in as substitute grandmother for my kids on “Grandparent’s Day” at school and thoughtfully remembered their birthdays for many years. When a black dog showed up on our doorstep and wouldn’t leave, Dora and George adopted her and they let the girls name her—”Blackberry.” Dora showed me what it was like to be a good neighbor. She will be missed.

Dora’s death is such a loss for our Les Jardins Neighborhood where she lived for many years with her husband, George (dec.), children, and various dogs (sequentially). Conversations with Dora were always interesting and reflected her curiosity, knowledge, concern for others and humor. Daily, until her last few months, neighbors would see and chat with Dora as she walked her final dog, Sophie, around the neighborhood. When I think of the words “neighbor” and “friend”, I think of Dora and the goodness she shared. Rest In Peace
